SSC CGL is one of the most prestigious examinations conducted by the staff selection commission, every year.
The exam is basically a three tier examination (a) Prelims (b) Mains (c) Interview.
First of all it is most important to understand the syllabus of the SSC CGL and the pattern of examinations, the nature of questions asked to get an idea about the entire process. SSC books or rather SSC examination preparation books, SSC CGL solved papers etc which are available in market or one can also buy books online, can be of great help for this.
For the convenience I would like to sum up the entire syllabus in few lines.
Quantitative Aptitude or mathematics
It mainly consists of Arithmetic, Algebra, Geometry and Trigonometry.
English Language
It is the most basic knowledge of English language that SSC evaluates. Key areas should be preparing for one-word substitution, idioms and phrases, synonyms and antonyms, fill in the blanks (sentence completion), sentence errors, reading comprehension, sentence rearrangement and jumbled-up sentences, etc.
There are several SSC books available in the market for guidance.
General Knowledge
This is a vast area of study, but going through the past question papers one can easily determine the pattern of SSC exams. This could help a lot. There are lot of SSC books which carry the solved question papers of previous years.
HOW TO PREPARE
Ideally, a student should start preparing by working on basic arithmetic, because it not only helps score in maths section but sound arithmetic and algebra also helps to solve at least 50 % of the questions of reasoning.
Move slowly but systematically, it is also advisable to prepare a detailed plan and then execute it accordingly.
I repeat it is more and more important to fully understand (go through lot of SSC books, read syllabus) what is the pattern or what SSC asks in the examinations. It is only after understanding all aspects of what SSC seeks in a candidate that we can prepare a winning plan and strategy.
Read and write essays, check it regularly for mistakes. Reading also helps a lot in getting simple grammatical mistakes identified, it also helps in solving several sections of the English test.
It is also advisable to go through the NCERT books of class VI to X, this will help boost your basic understanding of all the subjects and issues.
