SSC online, test series, are they useful?

SSC CGL 2018 is going to happen in next few months and same is the condition of other exams. And with this exams coming closer, also comes the flood of websites providing ssc online test papers or ssc online study materials.
The major question is whether these are useful or wastage of time and diversion.
There could be difference of opinion and exceptions too, that means while some people may find these websites useful and some sites are really good, but majority of these sites are made only for driving traffic and links, thus they end up wasting time of the students. Not only they waste time but they act as major diversions.
It is good to search for ssc online, but please check the extension of the website while searching online. If the extension (.gov.in, .nic ) or even if it is of some other type like .com or others, please try to ensure that it is either of any official website or of any other reputed website. Else there are more than 90% chances that it will do nothing but kill your time.
Moreover SSC is more about knowing in depth and practice. Practicing with pen and paper has a psychological impact and it lasts longer and leaves a deeper impression on our mind. In psychological terms, the retention of things that we read or write, most importantly write using our pen and pencil has more retention. Thus it is always better to find out about the syllabus, analyse it properly to identify your weaknesses and then work accordingly instead of looking for ssc online test books. These can be done but with caution and it is preferred to do it at the last leg of preparations.
Some important things that could be of great help
1.        Analyze the syllabus and scheme of examinations properly
2.       Go though the books specifically designed  for the exam that you are preparing
3.       Practice basics first
4.       Then practice and study specific targeted books
5.       Once done, start with practice sets & old test papers

(Online bookstore  for SSC books in India)

Preparation guide to SSC Exam For Recruitment of Constables in Delhi Police

Staff Selection Commission's exam against 4500 vacancies in Delhi police for recruitment to the post of constables that is likely to be held in the month of March 2017, needs a very systematic and balanced approached for preparations.
Though there are so many SSC books in the market, but it is basically on our own understanding that it is decided whether we are able to crack the examination or not.
The written exam consists of three main parts, reasoning, general knowlege and numerical ability. Each of these carrying 35, 50 and 15 marks, respectively. Thus broadly speaking mathematics related questions carry around 50% marks and general awareness carries the remaining 50% marks, cause there is a very thin lining between reason and numerical aptitude.
Both both these preparations, NCERT books are a must for those students who think that their basic preparations are not sound. Thus, if you feel that you need to start from a scratch then start with NCERT books. Though I personall recommend that everyone should start with the NCERT books, and then simply move on to solving question papers by buying some good SSC books for Delhi police constable examination. Solving papers in these SSC books, helps us for preparation as well as brush up our skills, but switching directly to solving these papers is not recommended unless you are confident enough about your basic knowledge.
At the same time, a systematic approach towards physical fitness preparations should also be adopted because, passing in written and failing in physical will also lead to disqualification.
Best of Luck!

(This paper is only qualifying in nature, but this paper of only those candidates will be evaluated who have obtained the cut-off marks as specified by SSC for the first paper)
The eligibility of the examination is matriculation and preparations should be done keeping in mind this fact.
The first and foremost priority is solving mathematics
Brush up the basic mathematics by going through the NCERT books for classes VIII to X. This will help you brush up and clear the basics of mathematics. It is important to go through because SSC normally judges the basic understanding of the candidates thus questions are innovative and new. Thus, being good at basics is the first and foremost criteria.
Then try to go through the previous year’s papers and make an idea out of it. For this SSC books available in the market for MTS examinations containing solved papers could be really useful. These books can be purchased online or you can also buy books online.
While you buy books online try also to look for SSC books that are dealing with topic wise preparations for MTS examinations, besides the SSC books with the solved papers.
Once done with the NCERT books. Go through the solved papers (mind it do not solve it) just have a serious look and try to make out the pattern and get an idea how the exam is and what sort of questions are asked.
Once you do this, you will get a fair idea of what is needed, i.e., in which type of questions you are feeling confident and in which you feel that you need more preparations. Start preparation using the topic specific SSC books that you have purchased with the topics that you have found yourself to be uncomfortable while reading the solved papers. Go slow, but be steady. Make a routine be focused, consistent.
It is also noteworthy to ensure that you write at least one essay a day on the topic of your choice for the first fortnight, then start choosing topics that are generally asked in SSC MTS examination paper 2. But this should be a regular practice.
Best of luck.
